This is a Pair of Antique Eastlake Victorian Cast Iron Doorbells. We do not know the age of the doorbells for sure but they look to me like they might be circa late Victorian era and they appear to have elements of the Eastlake style.
The bases measure 3 1/4" x 4 3/4" exclusive of the rounded flange at each end. The door bells taper to 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" at the upper face. The overall depth including the bezel around the button is about 2 1/8. These appear to be complete door bells including both the mechanisms and the button, unlike modern door bells where the door bell mechanism is remote from the button on the door. Please review the Condition section for additional information.
The cast iron housing are structurally in excellent condition with no cracks or other damage. The iron appears to have brass plating or similar.
As found, there is wear on the finish varying from light to moderate to heavy in different areas, with some spots of exposed iron and attendant fairly minor list rust. Please review the photos and make your own assessment in that regard. You can somewhat see the door bell mechanism though the openwork iron the back as seen in one of the photos. There are some remnants of wiring left as well. It appears that when the door bells were salvaged, that the wires were simply cut flush with back face. There is heavier rust on the non-plated back plates and on the interior mechanism. However, one appears to be protruding about the right amount, but the other one is depressed to far, and does not spring up when pushed. If you press the other button, it gives a little but does not depress as far as a modern door bell button. I do not know if this is the normal operation or not. I do not have any information as to the prospects of restoring the door bells to working order, and they are offered as found / as seen / as described.
Doing that is against U. We pride ourselves on multiple, large, clear photos. Please scrolldown past the description to view any additional photos. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution.
